mothering fail...

The Cuddler had to do a u-turn when she left work this afternoon. Again. She forgot that she had to pick me up. Yep, she is my mother.

The great news is that she has never forgotten to drop me off in the morning. Because it is hotter than hell.

The Cuddler snapped this picture when were outside playing football with my favorite neighbors, Austin and Dylan. They come over and knock very sweetly on our door and ask if I can come out and play. Dylan starts football this year. Can you tell that Morning Guy is already itching for football season and for me to play peewee football in eight years?

Now, on to something that is "almost" as important as football. The Cuddler has a very precious friend, Katie. We are so excited that Katie, Ben and sweet Riley are preparing to welcome another child into their family through adoption. One of Katie's many talents is sewing, and she is going to parlay that into fundraising for the adoption. Now, the Cuddler has a soft spot for little boys in her heart, but the retail appeal of all things little girl at Cassady Street is killing her. One of you ladies could really help me out by getting knocked up with a girl! There are cute little boy things too, but who can resist those sweet dresses? So, if you want to buy something super cute for a good cause, then click on over to Cassady Street!

PSA and a trip

Public Service Announcement to the people with no home training that tried to beat our door down Wednesday night while Morning Guy was out of town. If you drive around our neighborhood slowly in a beat up car with an out of state license plate, then don't expect the Cuddler to answer our door when you start beating on it and she is on the phone. At this point, you should realize that you are not welcome and you should leave. You should not continue to beat on our door and wake me up. If you do this again you will be looking at the business end of a Glock when she does open the door.

Thanks!

Now, back to where Morning Guy went, on a fishing trip:

Christopher caught a shark!!!

My PawPaw took John Martin too:

edible

Dearest Love,

In the last 48 hours, you have eaten a cherry pit, the tip of a crayola washable marker, and a chunk out of a foam baseball and attempted to eat wiki sticks and play dough.

I'm not sure who comes out looking worse in this story, you for your judgment or me for mine.

Please stop ingesting things that you cannot digest.

oh boy.

If you don't have a "boy" then you may not know what one looks like. Well, at least what one looks like after he eats a popsicle then uses the popsickle stick to dig in the dirt and eats it all when he is sweating like a hooker in church.

Now you know.

hair!

First, Happy Third Birthday to our favorite girl with WILD HAIR, Addie Lee!

We went to her birthday party this weekend. I got to play with girls and tractors.

I went today to get my hair cut. We took a litte off the sides but the left the top long. The Cuddler thinks I look a little like Lyle Lovett.

What do you think? I look good, feel good, life is good.

24 hours

In the past 24 hours, we have seen Dr. W, Dr. Baily, and Dr. Johnston.

I have a virus causing sores and ulcers in the back of my throat with a high fever.

We took Izzy in for her every other week injections for her hip and what we thought was a hot spot that showed up Saturday. Not so much. Apparently, she is "developing skin issues." Dr. Baily did not elaborate and the Cuddler could not really put together any other questions than was this cyst cancerous. We got a no on that and some medicines and a follow up in two weeks. Lets just say that Izzy has a big knot and gaping hole on her hip. She does not look so good and this did not sound like a one time event. Great.

The Cuddler has completely lost her voice and is making this scary squeaking noise when she coughs. Nice. Bronchitis again. She got a shot and three antibiotics.

What a mother.

This is going to be a Cuddler entry. If you aren't interested, come back later this week. I'm sure the Plum will have something to say.

Sometimes in life you see a mother that is so outstanding that you take notice. You want to emulate her behavior. A mother who gives everything to her children. I'm not talking about mothers that are too afraid of their own children to tell them no so they give until they have nothing more to give anyone else and nothing for themselves. I'm talking about a mother that in the face of inevitable death, cannot rest, cannot accept her fate because she must give all of herself to her children.

I went to a visitation for such a mother tonight. I only knew her through Ashley. She would have had no idea who I am. Ashley's cousin, Stacey, fought colon cancer for one long year. It was, by all accounts, a bitter and hellish fight until the very end. She wanted to continue treatments when they were no longer advisable.

In a time when so many mothers are failing their children, I cannot get this exceptional mother out of my mind or off my heart.

She was only thirty-six. She leaves behind two young sons. Even during her treatments, she never missed an opportunity to be with them. On Sunday, she was at her son's baseball game and on Monday she went to heaven (as my mother says, "Praise be to Jesus" she is made whole without any pain). What a mother. Even when she had so little to give, she gave it all to her sons.

What a legacy of strength and courage to leave your children. Please say a prayer for Trey and Cody.

Love,
heavy hearted Alissa
